A fourth quarter surge lifts Olympia past Dr. Phillips as they advance in the 6A Playoffs...
Titans Battle On...
There was little doubt that Tuesday night's game between Dr. Phillips and Olympia would be a nail-
biter, and this one did not disappoint. Olympia came into the game trying to avenge their loss to
the Panthers on Valentine's day, which cost them the district crown.
Dr. Phillips controlled the game with solid defense for the first three quarters, as they contested
nearly every Olympia shot-attempt. Olympia's "fun-n-gun" tandem of Martell Buie and Will Green sat
out most of the first half with foul trouble, however the Panthers were unable to zero in on Olympia's
weakness. Early traveling calls plagued the Titans in the first half, but the Titans only trailed by
two at halftime.
Perhaps the story of the night began in the third quarter when Jamel Marshall, one of Olympia's key
inside scorers headed to the training room with what appeared to be a broken thumb. Olympia's depth
kept them in the game as they never fell behind by more than six points at any point in the ballgame.
Olympia's vaunted 6th man section erupted as the injured Marshall came back into the ballgame with his
hand wrapped up in medical tape. This seemed to give the Titans the emotional boost they needed as
they entered the fourth and final quarter.
As Dr. Phillips tried to wind down the clock early in the fourth quarter, Olympia's swarming defense,
lead by seniors Will Green and Sherwood Brown, was able to grab loose balls and cause turnovers which
eventually lead to a Titan lead. Olympia's floor general, Martell Buie, lead the charge once the
Titans grabbed the fourth quarter lead as he drove to the basket for huge baskets time and time again.
Olympia jumped ahead by seven points with under two minutes remaining and never looked back.
The win puts Olympia's record at 26-4 and they will travel to Lakeland on Saturday to play the
Lakeland Dreadnaughts. The winner will stay in Lakeland for the FHSAA State Semi-finals, which
are being held at the Lakeland Center. Congratulations to the Olympia Titans and be sure to check
